Part 1: The Peddler
There was a poor man. He made rattraps from wire. He sold them to earn money. He was very poor. He had no home. He walked from place to place. One day, he thought about life. He said, "The world is like a rattrap. It offers us things. When we take them, we get trapped."
Part 2: The Old Man and the Money
The peddler met an old man. The old man was kind. He gave the peddler food and shelter. The old man showed him thirty kronor (money). The peddler was tempted. At night, he stole the money and ran away. He felt happy at first. But then he felt guilty.
Part 3: Edla's Kindness
The peddler met Edla, a kind girl. She invited him to her home for Christmas. She treated him with respect and love. Her kindness touched his heart. He felt ashamed of stealing. He returned the stolen money. He wrote a letter thanking Edla. Her kindness made him a better person.
Main Message: Kindness and respect can change a person's heart. When people treat us with love, we want to become better.
