Part 1: Saheb - The Rag Picker
Saheb is a young boy. He comes from Bangladesh. His family is very poor. They came to India to find work. Saheb picks garbage every day. He looks for plastic and paper in the garbage. He sells it to earn money.
Saheb does not go to school. He wants to go to school. But there is no school in his area. His family needs money to eat. So he must work. Saheb has no shoes. He walks barefoot on the streets. The streets are dirty and have broken glass.
Part 2: Mukesh - The Bangle Maker
Mukesh lives in Firozabad. This city is famous for glass bangles. Mukesh's family makes bangles. They work in a small, dark room. The room is very hot. There is a lot of smoke. This smoke is bad for the eyes.
Mukesh is young. But he must work with his family. Making bangles is hard work. It is also dangerous. Many children lose their eyesight because of this work. Mukesh has a dream. He wants to be a motor mechanic. He wants to drive a car. But his family is poor. They cannot send him to school.
The Main Message
Theme: This story shows how poverty takes away childhood from children. Poor children cannot play or go to school. They must work to help their families survive.
